We provide leading edge, practice-based training

IFPs’ mission is to provide education and development for people entering or working in child, family and relationship services in NSW. We aim to assist in the development of a robust, highly skilled workforce achieving the best possible outcomes for children, young people and families. Our training is based on the programs delivered by UnitingCare Burnside and UnitingCare Unifam Counselling & Mediation.

We provide nationally accredited training

The Institute of Family Practice (IFP) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with the NSW Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB), Provider Number 2697.

We provide professionally recognised training

The Vocational Graduate Diploma of Relationship Counselling CHC80107 meets the PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) training standards (Jan 09). PACFA has set rigorous standards to ensure a high degree of professionalism in the sector.

The Vocational Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution (CHC80207) meets the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department requirements for accreditation as a family dispute resolution practitioner.

We’re experts and we have experienced educators

IFP’s educators are all currently practicing in the field of counselling or family dispute resolution and have many years of experience. We believe that excellence in practice is the foundation of quality education.

We’re affordable

One of the core principles of the Institute of Family Practice is affordability and accessibility. Our courses are competitively priced and students can pay upfront or in instalments.

We’re flexible

Most of our students have to juggle competing work and family priorities. We provide class times that are friendly to those who are working and have family responsibilities.

We provide quality education

IFP provides students with a variety of training methods, including face-to-face seminars, lectures, experiential workshops and home study. We believe in having relevance to industry and the participant’s needs. Our courses equip our students with the skills to confidently work within the community services and helping sector.

We provide unique opportunities to practice your skills

IFP is part of UnitingCare Children, Young People and Families, whose members include UnitingCare Burnside and UnitingCare Unifam Counselling and Mediation. As a result it is one of the few child protection, counselling and dispute resolution training institutes that can provide opportunities for students to have supervised clinical placements in a major agency to practise their skills with individuals, couples, families and groups.

We offer a full range of courses

IFP offers professional qualifications that range from Certificate IV level (no pre requisites needed) through to Vocational Graduate Diploma level. The qualifications we offer can assist those with Social Work, Social Welfare and Psychology degrees to specialise in working with couples, families, children and young people.
